About J. Malcolm DeVoy

J. Malcolm (or, simply “Jay”) DeVoy moved to Las Vegas in 2010 to begin his legal career and immediately began litigating in the United States District Court for the District of Nevada.  He has briefed and argued cases that defined and clarified unsettled areas of copyright law. After working to place an opposing company into receivership and selling off its intellectual property rights to the highest bidder, he began working to protect his clients against facing a similar fate.

Representing clients in disputes involving contract claims, defamation, allegations of fraud, business torts, unfair competition, and intellectual property claims including trademark infringement and cybersquatting, DeVoy has been privileged to advocate for businesses that affect the lives of thousands of Las Vegas residents. Many fights, however, happen outside the courtroom. Advocating for his clients has taken DeVoy to many places, from conference rooms and long one-on-one meetings to testifying before the Nevada Legislature, seeking important changes to a popular bill.

When not fighting, DeVoy works closely with his clients to protect and optimize his clients’ businesses. Ranging from filing for trademark and copyright protection to providing operational oversight to their companies, such as negotiating key contracts with suppliers and drafting internal organizational documents, DeVoy seeks to understand his clients’ businesses and anticipate the risks they face. This is especially true in the complex and highly regulated area of healthcare. DeVoy has worked with physicians and their practices to mitigate and eliminate threats from all directions, from former employees to government agencies.

DeVoy started his practice in 2014 to work closely with and solve the problems of a select number of clients who wanted to be engaged with their legal representation. Rather than simply deliver legal services, DeVoy makes sure his clients understand the measures being taken on their behalf, the reasons for them, and the value of legal services in achieving their goals.
